December 2006

All three of us went on a road trip to Asheville. My mom booked us a room at a dog friendly hotel and we piled in the car for a few days in the mountains.

The first day we went to Biltmore - neither of us had been there before.

What an amazing experience. The house is just breathtaking. And the decorations definitely put us in the holiday spirit. We had lunch upstairs at the Stable Cafe. We walked through the greenhouses. And took a tour of the winery followed with a wine tasting.
It was a fun day.
The second day we met my mom's friends and went to the Grove Park Inn to check out the gingerbread house competition.

We were shocked to see how many people were checking in to the hotel for the holiday weekend. It's a beautiful hotel - although my mom was not very fond of the decor.
We had lunch in town.
We drove home the following day.

Christmas Eve we spent with Pam & Randy in thier now home with their family.
Christmas Day we spent with Kerry, Neal, Lathen & Logan.
All in all a fun Christmas.

Eileen says:Great road trip to Asheville, NC, the Biltmore is one very big house, the story goes it has 27 ?? bedrooms WOW. The Grove park Inn looked like a big gingerbread house. I was glad to see it. Denise & I met up with my friend Doris (from here in Greenbrier) and her daughter that lives in Asheville for the tour of the town and the gingerbread house display at the Grove park, our misfortune was that the winners of the National GB Contest had been shipped to NY to appear on GMA the day we choose to go see them. The ones that were left behind were just grand, amazing what skills people have to create such great cookies. Christmas was fun it was the first without Jim but we all got through it. This trip to be with Denise did offer me a beginning to a new (but old) mode of transportation. I flew down to NC and back, planes sure got small since I was on one last.
