December 2006

All three of us went on a road trip to Asheville. My mom booked us a room at a dog friendly hotel and we piled in the car for a few days in the mountains.

The first day we went to Biltmore - neither of us had been there before.

What an amazing experience. The house is just breathtaking. And the decorations definitely put us in the holiday spirit. We had lunch upstairs at the Stable Cafe. We walked through the greenhouses. And took a tour of the winery followed with a wine tasting.
It was a fun day.
The second day we met my mom's friends and went to the Grove Park Inn to check out the gingerbread house competition.

We were shocked to see how many people were checking in to the hotel for the holiday weekend. It's a beautiful hotel - although my mom was not very fond of the decor.
We had lunch in town.
We drove home the following day.

Christmas Eve we spent with Pam & Randy in thier now home with their family.
Christmas Day we spent with Kerry, Neal, Lathen & Logan.
All in all a fun Christmas.

November 2006

My mom (Eileen) and I went to Edisto Island for an early Thanksgiving celebration.

Some of the fun things we did while in Edisto were:

We went into Charleston a few days. We did lots there...
Went to Patriots Point and took a tour of the aircraft carrier. Some of the neat aspects of being out on the carrier - besides its size - are that my cousins' other grandfather used to work on carriers. I also dated a guy for a while that visited carriers out on the ocean for work. I just can't imagine.
We went to Dunleavy's Pub on Sullivan's Island for lunch. It so reminds me of home. One may even say it has more personality than The Bluffs.
On a freezing cold morning we took the ferry to Fort Sumter. OK - so I was thinking Fort St. Catherine's in Bermuda on my way out there. I was shocked to step off onto the tiny island and take in what is Fort Sumter. WOW it is tiny.
To warm up that afternoon we saw a IMAX movie. I so think it was about sharks but it escapes me now. We went to the aquarium too - I just love aquariums. They are the dryest way to take in the ocean and it doesn't matter that it is freezing cold outside.

And of course we had lunch with LA while we were there.
On another day we went to Beaufort, SC for a day. We had lunch at this quaint restaurant with a water view. Ahhh - how I miss the ocean. And we went to a park to check out a lighthouse.
And of course we toured Savannah. This time we took the Garden of Good and Evil walking tour. Our tour guide was amazing. He knew so much about the city. He took us to this beautiful Catholic cathedral. I would love to go back and go to a mass there.

We took a tour of a tea plantation - now owned by Bigelow

As well as a tour of a vineyard.
It was a busy trip to say the least. And let me tell you - to get off the island - it is a HAUL!!!

October 2006

I thought I would go back as far as last year around this time as we did a few things towards the end of the year to keep ourselves busy.

In October I took a flight from MKE through NJ to see friends and family for my birthday.
The height of excitement was a lobster dinner.
Then my luggage went to Charleston and I went back to Charlotte.
I guess that proved to be somewhat exciting as well.
